Sheedy ran on quite well after a lot of persuading but couldn't get near the placings, and earlier Tin Fandango was the absolute rag in the race, went out as far as 100/1 before being sent off at 80s. Quite prominent early on but faded right out of it.

And a big pricer from Dave Massey in the Nottingham 6.35. Still 40/1 across the board:

On to Nottingham and after Tin Fandango's eyecatching debut run at Lingfield I marked him down as one to keep an eye in once going into handicaps. He stayed on nicely there and wasn't beaten far, looking in need of a bit further (is upped half a mile in trip tonight). You can forget his poor last run, they tried him in a hood which he seemed not to like, so there's a ready excuse. At 40-1, worth a small e/w bet to see if he can refind that debut promise. It's pleasing that the yard are in better form as well (good winner at Windsor last night too.)

    Tuesday 14th August – Tips

7:50 Thirsk, Sheedy, 1 point win, 8/1 betfair (Now 10/1 WH)

Sheedy showed little on her first two starts when sent off at big prices. She was expected to show little again on her third and final start to qualify for a handicap rating last time when sent off at 66/1 over course and distance. However, she travelled well against some decent quality performers and despite very tender handling finished third, on the heels of the second placed horse.

Jockey Tom Eaves changed his hands a number of times in the straight but was never vigorous with the filly and the whip wasn’t used at all. That surprisingly good run has left Sheedy with a much higher handicap mark than connections would have hoped for but she really ought to have finished ahead of Addis Ababa last time and he’s was placed in a handicap off an official rating of 83 at the weekend.

I’m confident that Sheedy is better than her current rating of 71 and will be ridden to win this time. I’m happy with the price available as after placing so close to higher rated rivals this fillies only handicap is a much easier race.

Raaqyah represents high profile connections but isn’t improving. Twilight won a lower grade handicap and will struggle up in classs. Queen’s Royale has only ever won over 7 furlongs on the all weather and this is 8 furlongs on turf. I’m keen to take all 3 of these on with Sheedy at the prices available.

    Sunday 12th August – Tips

CD Racing - 3:10 Leicester, Great White Shark, 1 point win, 6/1 generally (Now 13/2 several)

There is rain forecast for Saturday evening and more through the night which should be enough to change the ground significantly from the current good to firm at Leicester. Great White Shark has won twice from five career starts, each time when given a stamina test on ground softer than good. She ran well enough on her seasonal return before getting outpaced and running on again late.

Great White Shark has been off the track for a longer than ideal 76 days but has been entered and subsequently declared a non runner due to unsuitably quick ground and therefore probably never missed training, with connections just waiting for suitable ground conditions. I’m confident that she can run to her best in this, which would give her an excellent chance.

Rain affected ground could be an issue for some of these, including Giving Glances. She won a weak looking handicap on the all weather last time and the second placed horse has since been beaten at a short price on his next run. This is a step up in class for Giving Glances and she has ran below her usual level on soft ground each time she has encountered it so far.

India had the run of the race at front-running suiting Catterick on her last win. She won by 5 lengths but was probably flattered as she had previously looked exposed. Leicester’s long straight and stamina testing ground will make it much more difficult to successfully employ the same tactics.

Amazing Michele is exposed and a doubtful stayer. Saving Grace has shown an excellent spirit to battle to two wins already this season. She was very poor last time at Newbury when upped in class, coming under a drive from a long way out and fading tamely. The hope for her chances are that the run came too soon after a big effort at Doncaster.

Really hit the buffers today. Just one placer, B.Freeway 3rd 8/1 (11/1 earlies) in the Ascot 3.25. 1.2 points profit on the race, but a total of 20 points lost on the other races, so loss of 18.8 points on the day.
