• Nicholls!
Peregrine...I have no worries about him celebrating...it is incredible hard luck, but its the way he carries himself. And of course hes not going to have 15 winners but read his piece...hes just too cocky!

I like a bit of sportsmanship and humility and in such a dangerous game, he shows none. His top owners even hired a pr guru for him because he was so embaressing and for 6 months he was more contrite, but back to normal in no time.

And no i wont be backing his. If i think they are a good thing i dont bet against for the sake, but dont bet full stop as they will be falsely priced. just as hendersons novice at Wincanton today. its form is rubbish and yet people piled in because its Hendersons.

Nicholls will probably do very well at Cheltenham and I will applaud and congratulate his staff, not him. I hope his hype shortens his chances of the trainer title so i can bet elsewhere. Forgetting him for once, i also think his stable stars, Clan des Oblong thing and Cyrname are overrated and will be backing against both...especially if he dared to take on the "inferior" (according to him and hcapper) Altior...which of course he wont.
  • Nicholls!
Ha ha dexy, i reckon your right!

Stevie, yes he confirmed on last day at Sandown winning the old Whitbread to make sure. He behaved like a horrible little twat in the winners enclosure and several people complained to the clerk of the course about his behaviour!
  • Ladcrooks lmfao
and you wont get the stake back....good luck with the 20p profit! Ladbrokes are a joke, always have been and always will be. I cant understand why you use them? Worst prices, worst terms and then try everything to weasel out of bets. Mind you if you want some joke prices, try unibet/Hills and Corals! i just use them as guides. ladbrokes always had someone in Henry Cecils stable and id always look if they were shorter than the rest, then back elsewhere, they usually went close.

I have to say, Ive been impressed with Bet365. Good prices, excellent place terms and(at the moment) i can get on pretty much what i want (even though im in clear profit). Maybe i help form their markets...not!
  • Champ
sadly yes Mugz. The NRNB is not covered by ante post rules, its covered by their rules ie they have now priced up a race (just like any day) and if there is a nr they can form new markets or rule 4. Of course you get your money back if a nr (unlike ante post - the risk you get for a bigger price). Its killing us bandits who try to steal a few quid! Luckily it looks almost certain my two will run and will both be shorter prices (brewingupastorm at 50/1 now 10/1 being the best).
  • Champ
Cheers Dodd, the confidence after yesterday’s canter has just gone silly! I still think brewingupastorm will give it a race, but confidence is sky high. But its now not a backable price so id only bet what you can afford. Oddly i think it may go off evens or maybe odds on when JP pulls o briens
  • Champ
Take it guys, whatever beats Champ wins! Confidence in lambourn off the scale!
  • my free bet tuesday 410
Joe, youve finally sold your soul! good luck mate
  • Plumpton and strange betting patterns
Brandon castle was impressive and that jumping will put it in good sted for Cheltenham. And the good thing about neil is that hes got other good horses yo compsre with, so this isnt barking at the moon. Briony gave it sn assured ride and is getting netter and better. She rides most of neils and is a brilliant horseman. Im annoyed as i knew they thought this was good and didnt take the 100/1 theyve all got.
  • Plumpton and strange betting patterns
Well two in so far (ew) and looks Like Murt could have won if the jockey had tried. THAT was schooling in public! But 22/1 was good (Bet365) and Really Radical places at 33/1 so nice ew singles and double with a tasty return possible if Discay places!

Versifer drifted 4/1 to 8/1 and ran a shocker, tailed off in a matter of yards!
  • Lil rockafeller tomorrow
Rans its race and briony gave it every chance. Have to say tizzard is my nemesis! Had a good bet on it several times and its let me down.....only horse backed and wins comfortably! Well done AKD tho, it won very well but i wont back it next time!
  • Lil rockafeller tomorrow
Cracking race and very open. 8/1 looked big to me as i know king thinks the eind op has worked wonders for Lil.
  • 2.40.OLD GUARD.
Looks a cracking race and im with you on reasoning for old guard. This is more of pssing on what king thinks. He thinks Lil is a different beast following wind op and briony asked to ride Lil (normally rides old guard). Let the best horse win!
  • Has the world gone mad?
Well everything that Cyrname has lost two, Altior (or lines through) has hammered! They are all laughing in lambourn and not because its funny. But Henderson doesnt live off plaudits or one race wonders so he really isnt personally bothered. But I do wonder what these guys are watching? one stand out performance against two horses who wouldnt live with Altior and hes top rated! 5 out of 15 races? And we think the Australians over reacted by making Winx top rated after 30 consecutive wins? I think our handicappers are drinking a little too much! And how would the bookies react in a match.....1/4 and 4/1....but then they are not handicappers are they!
  • Has the world gone mad?
And of course the fat oaf agrees with him! Priceless!
  • Has the world gone mad?
Handicapper has rated cyrname 178 the 8th highest rate horse since 2000, 3lbs above Altior! A horse that has won only 5 of its 15 races! Beat two average horses, and its rated above an unbeaten multiple grade 1 horse over hurdles and fences! Someone please explain this?
  • Barking Dog
Hi Bodger, brilliant stuff mate and how do you get the miserable bugger to talk! lol! he is a lovely guy but not usually that forthcoming!

and you make a great point, if you are level staking you can afford to lose the next 32 selections! and that is a point missed by so many! I try to stick to level stakes but also separate 10 or so max bets per year where i bet on average 5 times the level stake. These bets should be few and far between. Level staking also makes you look for value and my system, if a little simplistic, generally works if youre disciplined. Of course we all slip (usually at the course when beer kicks in!) but the discipline allows these bets and you can absorb losses and hopefully celebrate an unexpected win (especially if its from a yard at the track).

    great thread and winners tho
  • Horrible
joe, weve been here before havent we? And flogging a useless 39 rated half to death in the Southwell shifting sands isnt cruel? The poor thing cant go faster because its useless. You travel around Britain and see half starving horses looking miserable as hell and that isnt cruel? Belting a horse over 5 furongs to try and make it go faster isnt cruel? Either the whole of racing, flat or jumps, is cruel or they are not. You cant split hairs because you like one over the other? jump horses outlive flat horses 2 to 1. Why? well if the flat horse is no good and cant race, it usually ends up on a French, Spanish or Belgian table, samje as Farmer Giles best Fresian. Go to David Elsworths and see all his old horses in their20s roaming happily around the field and STILL being looked after as royalty.

Horses are meant to jump and run. Have you ever tried making something move that weighs over 1/2 a ton? Why do you think riderless horses carry on jumping? Theres no jock making them is there?

Look either the whole thing is cruel and senseless or the whole thing is not. i cant understand what you see "interesting " in seeing a moderate animal run in a circle on a surface that never changes (alledgely) but thats your thing and i respect that. i like flat turf and Jumps, thats my thing.

I know one thing, id rather be born a racehorse than a cart horse in a Gypsy camp!

Now onto the very sad subject. It IS awful seeing a horse suffer and noone wants that, but even the RSPCA admit a racehorse is better cared for than any other horse and that statistically if you look at the amount of times horse run per year versus fatalities, you will find it is a tiny % and more die everyday in ordinary fields and camps around Britain each day.

So either we continue to strive to make things as safe as possible for horse and jockey or ban the whole thing. Joe, given your views, the latter would be the only course of action.

But as i said, i respect your view even though i find it flawed and disagree totally. thats what this board is about, discussion and differing views.
  • Cyrname
Ha ha! The fat oaf did good! But yhen again he had all his runners out. Most of the Lambourn big gunners weren’t allowed! We will see come Cheltenham. Although slightly worrying all of hendersons ran pretty poorly. But then again most of these wont be at Cheltenham.
  • Friday
poop day! Liberty hated going right and downed tools...its better than that
  • Top 10 courses for c&d winners
Excellent stuff AKD.....you could also factor in trainers who particularly well at certain courses and when all are colliding you have a pretty good assumption for a bet! Stuart Edmunds for instance runs his decent ones at Fakenham and therefore his jockey Gethings is also very good round Fakenham. So get an Edmunds runner C and D winner ridden by Gethings and you have a basis for a bet. If it was a BF last time at the course, all the merrier. ive always used these factors when looking at the more moderate or "hidden " horses. really good horses will win everywhere but there are voodoos eg Desert Orchid unbeatable at Kempton and Wincanton but very beatable around Cheltenham.

I love these kind of posts, brings so much more than "i fancy this and that", though of course plenty of room for these too. But building up factors is a great way of narrowing down a field and then let your eyesight do the rest, they are the best tipsters!
