Should’ve stopped at a winner  thought that was in the bag 2 out
  • My selections for today.
Ok so I was stopping at a winner but not anymore I’m having what looks a good shout in the 3pm.

3:00 Southwell Amitie Waltz gets a stone from Busy Street here, the same stone which helped Busy Street win lto from a career high mark. Amitie Waltz has been backed in to fav, possibly on its run with Purple Rock (my last selection) but possibly not. It’s up in trip so you never know but I’ve backed Busy Street w/o Amitie Waltz at 6/4 because it’s hard to make a case for much else. The Johnson horse has been neither here nor there appearance wise and Azari hasn’t shown it overly gets the trip. It’s hard to see the market front 2 not being the first 2 home.

Hi all, apologies about the late selection but here goes ...

2:30 Southwell Massive opportunity for Purple Rock to get a win for the first time in over 2 years. It’s form is tied in with the fav, country n western by Vivernus who beat country n western by 13 lengths. Hidden Depths tried to steal a weak maiden from the front at Lingfield but didn’t quite get home, this is tougher although it can’t be ruled out. I like the credibility of Purple Rock here and this race is well within its scope so I’ve had a good win bet.

Hi Herbie, agreed about the general stature of fights and fighters outside the main and co main.

Have been listening to various experts and ex fighters recently, most notably Chael Sonnen who said this is the fight that Silvas been waiting for, he’s waited an age for a pure striker and Israel Adesanya is just that, he’s not going to have to wait and see what Adesanya brings to the table but in the same breath Anderson is the fight that Israel wants and in my eyes he’s the champ in waiting and the face of the company, everything in the stand up will be better from Adesanya, quicker, stronger, fluent in combination. Anderson is 43 and hasn’t fought for nearly 2 years to the day on Saturday night, a fight that arguably he should’ve lost against Brunson. Adesanya has only had what 3 UFC fights? He has improved leaps and bounds in each one, he simply brushed Derek Brunsons attempts to take the fight south and after showing some deficiencies against Marvin Vettori. At this time I think it’s the perfect fight for Israel Adesanya and I think he stops Anderson Silva early, I can’t make a case for Anderson, even factoring in his status in the game I just can’t.

Regarding the main event, I have pleaded Kelvin Gastelums case for a while. Chris Weidmann got the better of him ultimately using sheer size and his fantastic wrestling pedigree but not many people can get the better of him. Can Robert Whittaker? I’m not so sure. If this fight was in the states I’d price Gastelum slight fav but when you factor in the judges, the location, you can’t ignore the unruly outcomes that continue to be thrown up, most notably last week when Thiago Alves won a SD in Brazil against Max Griffin, 2 judges scoring for Alves 29-28, which I just couldn’t get my head around. This example and previous carbon copy’s lead me to think that Gastelum is going to have to fight 5 with an exclamation point to get a decision over an Aussie champion in Australia, however and more importantly, I think these guys are come forward fighters, they’ll meet in the middle, Kelvin Gastelum will want it in the pocket, Whittaker will oblige, Kelvin can take a shot, has fast hand, polished boxing, Whittaker was hurt very badly on a few occasions against Yoel Romero, Gastelum is a better technical striker than Romero, he can exploit Whittaker and i think he will, I think he will stop him in the midddle of the fight. I can’t not back Gastelum.

Also looking at Devonte Smith, Jalen Turner and Jonathan Martinez. I wouldn’t rule Sam Alvey out against Jim Crute either, Alvey has form for going down under and upsetting the apple cart but for what it’s worth my main bet of the weekend will be Kelvin Gastelum no dohbt about it.
  • All racing cancelled 7th February
Just seen this aswell CMB. Must be a bad case

Ok so I’ve had a look at Ffos Las for tomorrow and I’ve tried to find an angle with the forecast conditions so with all that taken into account I’ve had a large bet on one

Ffos Las 4.45 I can’t see past Ballotin on his 3rd time chasing on these shores. Both Dineur and Double Ross would hold claims on older form but I’m factoring in Dineur not essentially proven on the going and Double Ross who I’ve profited from before, I think it’s best days are back in the mid 10s. I can’t find much in the way of opposition apart from the 3 mentioned. Mister Robbo is near the front of the market but I can find little on its background other than point to point success. I think Ballotin is the class horse in the field and I hope the mark reflects that. With relatively low mileage on the clock, a sucker for the ground, there’s a couple of valid positives I couldn’t bypass.

Thanks owenjohn. I’m a novice when it comes to the true reading and breaking down of racing. I’m not in the same league as many on here but I will enjoy it while it lasts  I just like to look at things from my own perspective and it’s paying off currently

Thanks folks. Pulled me out a hole today. I like following the selections of others especially with a write up and I’m never strict enough to stick to my own judgments but just part and parcel of following the forum I suppose

    Thanks guys.

    One selection today.

4.10 Newcastle I have it between the market front 3. Short price Tetradachm is up 9lb for taking the race on and hammering its rivals on its debut for Rebecca Menzies. I don’t think it will get away with similar tactics here with my selection Royal Cosmic ew being prominent. Ran well enough on its reappearance over c&d before sticking it out at Southwell next time. Can’t see it being out the front 3. The 3rd at Southwell, Seasearch won over an extended trip at Southwell last night. Flood Defence is also worth a mention and possibly interference on its last few runs have not helped it but it’s also racing off a bit higher But can’t be ruled out but I’m going with the Fahey runner for the double.
  • Market Rasen tomorrow
    Thanks Hippo. I’ve backed these
