I have also backed Quel Destin, although I don’t think it will be easy giving weight to Torpillo who looked impressive last time, but I am going by their meeting at Haydock in February when QD came out on top easily off level weights, and he also has the advantage of winning here before. Can’t ignore the Irish runners either, Irish have had a very good record in this race in recent years. Last 5 seasons, they have sent only 3 runners for this race, all 3 won (15/8, 9/4, 5/1), I think Effernock Fizz, with her weight allowance, is a bit overpriced at 50/1 assuming her Bellewstown win wasn’t a fluke, but with just 7 runners now each way option has been taken out.

Backed her mainly because she is the only course winner in the field, won her maiden here and finished a close 3rd in Group 3 Oh So Sharp Stakes at this meeting last year, both those runs were over 7 but has won over 6 on the July course this season. Hasn’t been able to get competitive at this level so far this season but this looks a bit weaker than few of those races so I am hopeful she will do better today.

Good luck. I have backed Norma, but agree it’s a very open race so I would be against the favourite from a value perspective. Yours has plenty in her favour, form of her last race looks solid, and the apprentice jockey is having a good season so interesting on first ride for Stoute.

Thanks Peregrine, good observation. I had very small bets on this and NTD’s runner in 3:50 (Mossy Fen) this morning, both at 9/2. Support for it is interesting, NTD has a nearly 50% strike rate with horses that are favourite on debut in bumpers (29 from 62, +20 LSP in last 15 years). This could turn out to be a pretty good bumper though with newcomers from Jonjo and Longsdon also there, both of whom also have very good records in bumpers here, and there is Hobbs and Rebecca Curtis too. Last year’s winner (newcomer from Philip Hobbs) went on to finish 3rd in Champion Bumper at festival. Worth watching this race.
