    Thursday August 23
Fairyland is the bet of the day on Thursday in the opening Sky Bet Lowther Stakes.

She's widely considered to be the best two-year-old filly in Ireland and has strengthened up a touch since finishing a close third in the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot. That form is bombproof with the reopposing Angel's Hideaway and Michael Bell's star Pretty Pollyanna back in fourth and fifth, while the first two have since fought out the finish to the Sweet Solera at HQ.

Fairyland can give Aidan O'Brien a long overdue first Lowther victory.

Laurens looks a rock-solid selection for the Yorkshire Oaks. This is a brilliant renewal with the winners of the Irish and French Oaks, plus the Ribblesdale winner, all clashing and it's Karl Burke's game filly who looks the one you can set your clock by.

It's a new trip, but everything about her suggests she'll get a mile and a half well and she's reported to be in sizzling form at home.

The athletic Lah Ti Dar could have taken this route too but Gosden has opted for the Listed Sir Henry Cecil Galtres Stakes and it looks the perfect race for her after she was forced to miss the Oaks earlier in the season.

She's been working back nicely towards this meeting for several weeks and has delighted connections in her latest preparatory gallop. She's in several top races during the autumn including the St Leger and it will be fascinating to see how this well-regarded daughter of Dubawi fares

Pleased with today. 12/1 winner and 3 placers from the 5 races. 4 place trebles and 6 place doubles up.

I think these do better at the big meetings.

  • Bits of info
Tomorrow (Saturday). Paul Jacobs free inside stable info:

After being pulled out at Haydock last week when I fancied him to go well at a massive price Handsome Dude has solid claims on the form book in the Great St Wilfrid Consolation at Ripon (2.05). However, his previous visits at the track are far form inspiring and HEE HAW gets the vote. Connections had apparently worked him in the cheek pieces at home and backed him to return to form last week. They are retained here and he is still very well weighted on some of his old form.

The Geoffrey Freer (2.25 Newbury) looks a really good renewal and I have received messages for several horses, but I have been told if WALTON STREET is successful here he will be aimed at the Melbourne Cup and miss his intended outing in the Ebor. He has about 5 to 7lbs to find with some of these, but this will only be the eighth run of his career and second in the UK this year. He worked brilliantly last week and is considered to be firmly on the upgrade.

My strongest pieces of news in the big sprint at Ripon (3.15) concerns the favourite GROWL (I won’t back him if firm appears in the going description) and the massive outsider DAKOTA GOLD (considered well weighted by connections and no forlorn hope).
  • Systems
    Selections today for system 1:

Tramore 5.30 Nevada Rose 40/1 most places. (Woops sorry, at 10 stone 5lbs it is 1lb outside qualifying weight, doesn't count and I dunno how to delete these posts!)
