look at the one in the first....3/1 out to 7/1!
  • Gordon Elliot taking over the world!
Yes Mugz, but they should all be at least double the odds...if they drift i may have a bet. Its a bookies trick, plus Ive had a sneaky acca just in case!
  • Trainer form month on month....Members thoughts please....
I think a big factor that hasnt beren mentioned is the type of trainer and type of horse. A big trainer may be targeting a certain period/race/month eg a trainer who likes to run his quality horses in the big back end 2yo races or like Channon, will view Ascot in June and stealing a march with his 2yos as they are fitter than anybody else's in March April May. Barry Hills used to almost close his stable for a month for the rapeseed harvest once he discovered thats what was "infecting his stable"...the same with Charlie Hills who is firing again after a lull. Then you get big yards having a clear out of dross in Sept/Oct hoping they may sneak a win or Ian Williams or Pipe buys them to go hurdling.

So you need to be careful with "in form", it can be misleading. Nicky Henderson gears his horses for 2 meetings...Xmas meeting at Kempton and Cheltenham so no point having a flood of winners in October! Skeltons winners will start to die off now the big boys are starting their season, much like Pipe used to until he started getting better horses.

So I think a better method of "when in form" is to deduce trainers plans from their virtual stable tours...you will find a pattern emerging regarding the prep races etc Also consider the stables who "have to win" rather than the ones "qualyfying" for races further down the road. The Twister is a good guide. He rarely sends horses out for the run or place, he wants to win , thus they will be trained to the minute. King doesnt mind losing a few to land a big one later. Also learn about the trainers and their trends. Nicky will almost always put up Nico on his chasers as he is a fine horseman but will use David Bass on some of his more nervous hurdlers as hes got good hands but also a bit of an enforcer! Mcgrath will get used on the lesser horses that nether the less want to win.

King was easy to read. Choc on his quality , Hutchinson on his hurdlers and hcappers and Bellamy on his hidden ones. IOther trainers do the same. Tom o Brien will probably win more hcap hurdles for Hobbs than Richard Johnson.

So as someone said earler its another piece in the jigsaw but not an important one. The more obvious is when a stable just cant buy a winner. Meehan was like that earlier but is now running some nice 2yos he wanted to run earlier but couldnt as the yard was suffering.

Another thread i like is when a stable has had a poor season, it naturally means their horses may be well hcapd the following season when hes back to form. Henry candy proved that a couple of seasons ago when we had a rare old time backing his last season losers at big prices the following season!

Nice thread and hope theres more like this rather than the bland "this will win" or "info"

  • A STRANGE CRUSH ON LYDIA HISLOP
    ...yes, with her husband!
  • A STRANGE CRUSH ON LYDIA HISLOP
Ive met Lydia many times. shes charming, intelligent and great fun. She has a real glint in her eye. She is very bright and is a qualified journalist and sharp with it. She laughs at stories about her hair and dress sense and agrees with all of it! The jockeys love her as she really knows her racing but can have a right laugh with them. trainers always like her except the miserable Michael Stoute....shes upset him a few times about his "non triers" that others hail as "long term prospects" or the Stoute "genius and patience" that she rightfully (as do i!) refer to as blatant non triers! John Gosden really likes her as she doesnt ask inane ITV questions like "how does it feel to have won" and "describe how you feel" (well they are hardly going to say awful after just winning are they? Go to Sandown if you want to meet her, she really will talk to anyone and she is always around the very accessible parade ring there and in the bars when not walking. So fully agree with you Finley "there really is something about our Lydia!"

  • AND THE WINNER OF THE CAMBRIDGESHIRE IS ?
Bet365 are doing 1/4 5 places and will be 6 on the day. I like the look of two and oddly ive done well in this race too! In the old days you needed to be a gp horse in disguise but the standard has dropped.

Circus Couture...ew at 40/1 (NRNB) 5 places We had a good ew pick up lto and its now showing its form it had in Italy. More rain the better and I hope Kingscote doesnt ride it..he got it in all sorts of bother until the winner had flown. The winner of Baldings is a very good horse on soft.

Danceteria ew at 14/1 5 places 1/4 odds. Thundering Blue boosted the stable form and this may be a group horse. Likes all ground and was unlucky in Ireland last time.A real turn of foot and stays....i think this could near be the winner, but no draw or jockey yet hence 14/1
  • Tomorrow, Sales Race at Doncaster
and i get beat by.....Ryans other horse! And worse, Ratbone beat it lto! Rathbone was cruising and found little. disppointing!
  • Tomorrow, Sales Race at Doncaster
Trouble is 12 is right in the middle...not too sure
  • 4.15 haydock.
Brando ran a cracker as did Gustav Klint...the Tin Man was the first i put a line through due to Fanshawes form. Sir D was going nowhere and was being oushed along after 10 yards! A long season takibg its toll by the looks.
  • 4.15 haydock.
Be good for racing if harry wins but i think this ground is bottomless and may bring in the 7f horses. Ive ew on SirDanceslot early doors and just now put a forecat Harry to beat it as id hate to see it without s prnny on. Slso have a 6.25 ew payout on Sir D for a place so wouldnt be gutted if Harry wins. Not dure brando will like the fround and the 2yos eeally struggled to get home warlier? I like Brando tho but needs different ground imo

Ok, point taken and apologies. But ehy the need for sarcasm? Surely we are all after the same thing? But debate is important. If youd come back and said you disagree and stoures a good chap etc, thats fine. But you add nothing with chesp shots so why do it?

Anyhoo, i agree, matter closed and hoping Sir Dancealot creates a surprise! The ew double is 19.3/1 so id be happy with that. In truth i want harry angel to bounce back but vibes are not good and that ground may bring 7f horses into it

Very helpful and i love your pointless name although the surname suits.....now thats sarcasm! I thoight this forum was about Debate and differing views and note you havent “helpfully” posted gosdens record? Thought the idea of a new site was to get rid of “Muggs” like you....hey im on a roll!

Err were you on Circus Couture ew at 25/1 or i bet you were on the hot stoute fav @2/1?

Now lets leave it there and grow up
  • sandown and Michael Stoute hype
I was puzzled about perps replies til saw mugz mod comment. A really geeat idea considering the abuse on the old site. Sorry bout the s word!

Joe Mugg......thanks for pointing out stoute v meehan record? But why? Cant see anywhere i was comparing the two? I have a feeling you were being sarcastic? Hilarious as ever! Now compare Gosden and stoute. Gosden makes it clear when horses need a race and is probably the friendliest and most approachable trainer ive ever met except eve johnson hougton....but shes nuts! In the loviest of ways. Shes funny, open, worries about her horses, staff and owners, a real gem! Oh yes and the sense of humour of a navvy!

For the record stoute had 1 odds on winner and the others bombed, long term projects no doubt!

On to today. What a weird race at kempton! One out and out stayer and Enable, the best 10f/12f seen for years both running at 1m on the aw... bizarre and shame on the other trainers for. Ot taking their only chance at beating a genuine gp1 horse and an ok gp2 horse. Surely a good genuine miler hcaper should give it a go? Instead we have 2 poor horses agInst them who would struggle to win a class 3 hcap! Just have this feeling something odds going to happen

Just 2 ew bets me, Sir Dancealot @14/1 at haydock. The ground may blunt the others speed and it acts on dodt and ew on ircus couture at 25/1 will slso love the ground

Hi Guys, thank you for all the compliments. too be honest I was really doubting myself after it got beat lto. That Windsor race still makes the hair on the back of my neck rise so seeing it win the Gimcrack pushed out was really gratifying. Also 12/1 down to 5/1 was great too and a nice touch but it was more the fact that my judgement had not fallen apart that chuffed me.

I always like backing 2yos as oddly you can narrow down races far quicker and its easy to spot the deadwood and also the fact some trainers never have 2 year old winners! But the bookie is faced with 12 runners when we already know only 4 can possibly win. There are upsets but if you dig deeper, are they really upsets? Also the "fiddlers" of the racing world (the O'Mearas, Bests, Easterbys, Barrons, Prescott etc) rarely look for good 2yos as that doesnt meet that "plotting" strategy. A good example is "early 2yos"...look no further than Evans, Channon, Fahey, Hannon (not so much this season), Johnston and then take theirs less seriously as the season develops. In the Autumn look for the Stoutes, Bin Surrors, Charlie Appleby , Cox (although now seems to spread over the year more) bringing out 2yos that will be leading horses next year. Just make a note of this years 2yo winners at Royal Ascot and then see how they get on next year. With the exception of the Coventry , most are forgotten about as they have left their careers behind as 2yos.

yes, cheers guys. Hows you Dan, long time no speak.
