and oh yes...Man Of plenty fourth in the Champ race above...see what i mean!!!
  • Taunton 245
I know Mugz but thrashed by Milrow since! Now 75 lengths better than Milrow!!! Milrow drifts from 6/1 to 14/1 (then SP of 12/1)...tells the story. sadly Sophies stable are like that, when they pull one they dont even bother to make it look good! I knew and pointed out the risk of backing one of hers but i do win with her horses as they tend to win at 25/1 and 33/1 after losing runs spanning 8 or 9 races, but on even betting, you can win in the long run and i said, the booking of Brennan normally sets my alarm off!

Cheers Cosmo, ive checked my bet and its paying 3 places as i put it on with 9 runners. luckily the 2 withdraws were over 14/1 so happy days!
  • Special Tiara
Very sad, special horse and loved by trainer, owner and jockies alike. Loved watching the “nutter” as it tooked liberties with every fence - and still won! RIP
  • Punters in racing syndicate face ruin.
Greed rules people’s lives! No sympathy here! But i slso think there is some notorious DIly Mail sensationalism here, all seems far fetched to me!

But good warning tho so worth posting
  • Speculative punts for Sandown on Sat
Man of plenty ean a cracker st 50/1 in 6th (20/1 first 6 ew) and the irish horse was a nr again
  • Why Crowd-Think doesn’t work for Horse Racing?
interesting read but i could have saved them 146 years research by telling them that favs only win about a third of races and more importantly often start far shorter than the 3.4/1 needed to just about break even! Its still a good read tho and thanks John for posting.

the crowd in racing are often "mugs|"...otherwise bookies would be poor. Bookies love multiples but hate individuals landing single bets. Value is everything.

My tip to an aspriring punter is learn to write your own tissue based on facts and your opinion . only use the official handicapper as a reference and i personally ignore Racing post ratings as tthey are often nonsense. use Timeform as a guide...theyve done all the breeding and speed work for you, but rely on your own eyes. No excuses these days with the technology available you can watch every race in Britain.

Try a tissue for 100 races before you bet and tweak til you have system that works for you.

i used to run a racing service (opinions not tips or inside info). it went well but after a bout of sudden and totally unpredictable ill health, decided to knock it on the head and just enjoy the game itself. At their request i still provide some tissues for a bunch of loyal subscribers, who had been with me for 10 years, to work on and they very generously reward me, win or lose. These tissues are a vital part of my strategy and every now and again, one leaps out at me at being overpriced (like Brewinupastorm for the Ballymore...i have 50/1 and its now 14/1) and again last summer Emaraaty Ana at 12/1 for the Gymcrack when i made it a 4/1 shot...it won at 5/1...all because of what I saw at Windsor on its debut and the subsequent form of who it beat thereafter....meant my tissue was screaming value and i had a very good bet on it...admittedly after losing a hefty bet in between (where there were excuses).

so for me, self pricing or "tissuing" is vital but you have to know your stuff and have a good eye and understand form eg beating the same or poor horses does not mean its good, just well placed by the trainer...but that can reap dividends if you realise its head and shoulders above the rest, therefore evs can be a great price (ie value) when you rate it at 1/3!

i never follow the crowd...go racing and youll see why. i havent got an Aunty Doris, so why would i back it!

Betting is like anything in life, you have to put the work in, but if youre like me, the work is great fun and i love it! im wrong 2/3ds of the time but as long as the 1/3rd im right with are over 4/1 im a happy chappy!
  • Speculative punts for Sandown on Sat
Articulum not running. at Sandown. Thought id lost my stake but bet365 have refunded it, happy days. Will have a look in Ireland for it
  • Speculative punts for Sandown on Sat
I see Nestor park won today...that was last and beaten miles by Champ last time out!
  • Brewin@ up a storm Sat
I see Brewin is 14/1 for the Ballymore so my 50/1 is looking better all the time. Champ at 4/1 still looks massive to me though!

Hi Moggy, hes a brilliant jockey but every now and again the jock is not the right fit for the horse and Murphy will use the Champion jockey at every opportunity but feels that Colman is a better "horseman". It happened a fe times with mccoy on Macmanus's horses. Henderson was not a huge fan of mccoys riding his horses as he prefers a quieter rider rather than McCoys kitchen sink style. mcCoy rarely rode any of Nickys not owned by JP. Thats why he rarely uses Johnson and prefers Mcgrath or Fehilly or Bass to ride his when Nicos not available. Nicky was happy to use Barry Geraghty of course because he is a real horseman and horses get in a rhythm for him, similar to Ruby in his heyday. Mccoy always said Ruby was a better horseman - a natural- than him but McCoy was stronger in a finish.

So om not knocking Richard Johnson - he is brilliant, but id like to see Coleman or Fehily ride Brewin next time. But as ai said earler it will never beat Champ who must be considered a good thing for Chelt now

Well , just got back from Cheltenham. Thst was annoying but life i suppose. I didnt like the ride johnson was giving it and apparently nor was Murphy. He presented wrong at every hurdle. Why did he insist in getting in do tight at every hurdle when its such a natural jumper. Mistake after mistake and still would have won. I said to my party i feared it would fall when johnson kept forcing it in to every hurdle and so it proved. Johnson said it was tanking and would have won easily (his words). I think you will see Coleman riding in future.

That said, it ran a geeat race and the way the two of them sorinted clesr was v impressive. However he will never beat Champ so they will prygo sun alliance rather than Ballymore.

The thrills and spills of jump racing...i love it and wouldn’t change a thing!

I see Brewin is 2/1 now with Bet365! I have acashout offer already! Not taking it tho as i think it will win and 4/1 will do nicely
  • Max bet tomorrow
    Hi Judge

im writing up a separate post on this
  • Warwick 3:45
great shout, well done and brilliant you held your nerve and didnt lay it
  • 130 warwick
well the money came and it went off 2/1. strange race as Hendersons was allowed a lot of rope but won easily, so no complaints. The winner may be better than i thought but Shantung looked average and i wont be backing it again
  • 130 warwick
Hi AKD, looks like the market is backing yours. I just think the price on Hendersons is silly, given what its achieved and certainly no confident word from the yard. Talking about the yard.....lot said about Nicky being worried about some of his horses' health. A few havent run as expected and some of the jocks are describing the horses as lethargic. Hes hoping this cold snap will get rid of a bug lurking about since the summer. No big concerns apparently but explained the drift on Mr Fisher on Sat who they thought was a 1/3 shot but you could get 6/4 at one point. Still won easily but the jock reported that when he said "go", the response was not immediate but eventually put it to bed. Now they compare this to Verdana Blue who has the best turn of foot in the whole yard so you can see that its niggling away with them. Really cold weather expected across Lambourn and Thames Valleys....perfect for eradicating annoying little bugs
